Unending Theme

Instead of doing anything productive ie finishing the layouts for (k)aligo I've spent my day making notes on the whole historical/political situation of my Sailor Moon epic (formerly known as Sailor Moon Futures and currently: Sailor Moon: A Dark Turn) I'm constantly amazed that my fanfics worlds are more realized than my own original fiction. I don't know what that says about me but there it is.

Saw an interesting entry from eliade regarding Unending things in stories we read/write and found myself thinking about the stories I write and like to read. Judging from my recent fics I'd say my theme is more Farscapian: 'Change or die' with a patina of 'the reluctant hero who rises above themselves'.

I've recently moved away from the destine love that wins all but I find it hard to move away from, though I am disliking, the Destined Hero angle.

Here are my Work-in-Progress fics:

Sailor Moon: A Dark Turn is an epic Duneish inspired fiction which forces Usagi to leave her innocence behind in order to take a more demanding role as a rebel leader.

Scarlet: A Ranma 1/2 fic set 15 years after the ending, and an Akane who is changed beyond all reckoning, but fun in a spy thriller way.

Untitle Original Story: A story about a boy and a girl but much more than the regular love story. There's the quest, the sword fights, the kidnappings and the girl saving the boy. Boy is Crichtonesque, innocent, fun and the changes. The girl a happy combination of Jenny Calendar , Zhaan and Aeryn

My Farscape/Buffy fic - where season five Buffy does not die but ends up galaxies away from Earth and happens upon the Moya crew. Change or die? Hell, yeah.

By the by, I didn't manage to keep up with the deadline of NaNoWrimo, so that's out. But I am going to finish it someday, it's just that I realized too late I need more research and more worldbuilding. The characters demand it.

Finishing up the layout of my 'zine and waiting for more contributors:)

Spendy

Oh, man, why in the world did I venture into Booksale? Look what I made myself do:

Bought seven, seven Catwoman comics (because it's bootiful! and better storyline and just plain cool!)

CJ Cherryh's Angel with the Sword
Samuel Delany's Dhalgren

Total price? Smaller band account.

And it's not finished!

I'm still salivating after Robin McKinley's Deerskin, Douglas Adam's Hitchiker's guide to the Universe and CJ Cherryh's Tripoint.

Argh, Money, money, money whereart thou? *sigh*
